The US Department of Justice has launched its first-ever National Tax Enforcement Surge, targeting alleged tax fraud schemes across the country. The DOJ says 76 defendants were targeted in prosecutorial actions involving more than $490 million in estimated intended losses to the federal government. The operation brought together the DOJ’s Fraud Division, 35 US Attorneys’ Offices and IRS Criminal Investigation.
